Like the Boy Scouts, and other popular scouting organizations from about 1910 to 1950, scouting in general started to decline in the 1950s. Perhaps in part because easily accessible wild areas were all but gone in the Godwin area by then. In the late 1960s they were mostly declared paramilitary orgainzations by a society now engaged in Vietnam, the hippy phenomena, and other social upheavals, and never really recovered after that.
