A quick look at the photographs above will quickly show why there were few to none truly obese students in 1949. In 2004 gym classes have become the victim of odd budget priorities, and perhaps insurance costs. Still mostly an era devoid of television sets, and personal computers were not even a dream yet, the typical student in 1949 was active and fit, and for the most part healthy in their retirement in 2004. Hopefully the same will be said for students in 2004, who often do not participate in gym or sports, in schools that for some reason more and more seem to find even simple but important activities too expensive.
