1949 was perhaps Charles Saur's last year at Godwin. With the able help of a staff that he essentially hand picked over the years from about 1922 or 1923 to his retirement from Godwin in 1949 or 1950, and a supportive school board, he was able to take Godwin from a one room school house in 1923 to first class, financially sound school system 25 years later. Literally thousands of Godwin alumni owe their fine educations to Charles and Gladys Saur, and those who helped them.
