Wayne Stafford joined Godwin as a physics instructor in about 1950. Perhaps WWII, which was essentially a technology war, and the development of the Cold War in the late 1940s, made it clear that there would be a future need for people trained in science. Prior to 1950 it was unusual for a high school to have physics and chemistry teachers. Only the larger schools typically had them.
