Yellowstone trip - 1929

Yellowstone trip - 1929

The Godwin class of 1929 class trip was a true adventure. A trip to Yellowstone National Park at a time when there were no interstates, and accommodations and eating facilities could be spartan at best. It was a unique opportunity. Within six months of the trip the US stock market would crash, and within a year or two of that already it was difficult to even keep the school running much less for the class to take exotic trips. And of course it took the dedicated Saur team to make it all happen. Chaperons for the trip. both possessed boundless energy, and were exactly the kind of people it would have taken to make a trip like that work. Over 75 years later, it is hard to see a trip like that working in year 2006. Students and chaperons slept under the stars, cooked their own food in part, and no doubt kept their cars running. Truly it was a different world.

See section "C", class of 1929, for some photographs of the 1929 Yellowstone trip.
