Tree removal - June 13, 2013.

The crew started about 9AM, and finished at 7PM. Tons of "mulch" and firewood. Alas, the trees were all healthy, but soft maples are a dirty tree, and the roots in the sewer line cost big bucks over the last 10 year. The bucket could be used in the front, but with no access to the back, it was all tree climbing for one person. Dangerous, strenuous work. After the trees were down, the stumps were ground out, and well as some of the more obvious roots.

Next came putting grass were the trees were. Rich DeGraaf brought in a lot of black dirt and planted seed. I watered it faithfull for two weeks. Nothing. The birds got all the seed.

Tried again. Once again the birds got all the seed. Why not? They did the first time, and they do learn where the food is.

My turn to learn something. Now trying seed starter mats. plant seed, put on the mats, and water. The mats are supposed to decompose in time.

Seed starter mat.
