A map of Godwin's 1929 class trip to Yellowstone. Apparently the entire community followed the progress of the trip. Just how long it lasted and other details are unknown. The trip was apparently a one time affair. The Great Depression probably made subsequent trips uneconomic. It lasted in the US until 1938 or 1939, when war production led to full employment. After 1941 the US was directly involved in WWII, and by the time that was over bad economic times returned, followed by the Korean "conflict." After that classes at Godwin were far too big to make such a trip practical, and too the world had changed too much for people to just stop and camp in any safety anywhere they wanted to. |
