Perhaps akin to the Cub Scouts, and other forms of scouting,
the Campfire Girls likely promoted the development of skills and
discipline, and family involvement. These kinds of organizations
went hand in hand with a more open landscape, in a time when outings
in the woods were still relatively safe and possible. By the early
1960s such organizations were being declared para military in
character, and most essentially disappeared by the 1970s.
