Social changes have made clubs like Camp Fire Girls and Boy Scouts essentially impossible in the 21st century American school. Despite decades of helping develop self reliance, the costumes, modern lack of open spaces, and available leadership have made such clubs a thing of the past for the most part. Criticized for being para military organizations and being socially insensivity, the values the the clubs did impart has found no clear substitute.
