Nothing shows the effects of the end of WWII in Europe more than the
appearance of war surplus. Jeeps were popular. Rugged and simple,
they could by design handle just about any road, or lack thereof.
The suspension was minimal, and an encounter with a large bump or pothole
could be a memorable and painful experience. With the obvious lack of
seatbelts, and not between the driver or passenger and the road, people
did fall out. Sadly, one cannot buy such a basic and durable vehicle today.
It appears that 36th was still a dirt road in 1945. |
