Every annual from the mid 1940s on had photos of students in chemistry classes mixing solutions, and people in biology classes peering through a microscope, or staring at a formaldahyde solution at some hapless creature inside a jar. Not ten years later many of these same people would become part of the effort to put people on the moon, as rivalry between the US and the USSR expanded.
