Between the graduation years 1929 and 1963 fashion was always a part of the
Godwin student experience. In 1949, and perhaps a decade either side of
it, "saddle shoes," white on both ends and black in the middle, were a
staple, and, as fashion goes, always safe. The nearly floor length skirts
are apparently also a fad in 1949, and are also expressed by almost ground
lenth overcoats for women. ( See page 32. )
In later years Wall Street wags would suggest that skirt length fashions mirror the Dow Industrial Average, culminating in the miniskirts of the early 1970s. If true, that would have meant that in 1949 there was a depression. |
