Note the reference to the Frank Rackett flora and fauna museum on page 1 of the October 26, 1956, issue of "The Wolverine" above. While now almost 50 years ago, contrasting the statements made there with the reality of the collection in year 2006 can only cause one to shake their head in disgust. See section "R", "Frank Rackett's Museum," to see the state of the collection today.
Just how the $70,000 figure for the value of the museum was arrived at is unknown. If true, it would be worth perhaps $500,000 today. Maybe more, since many of the specimens in the collection are irreplaceable. The passenger pigeon for example.
A combination of vandalism, and apparent contempt or apathy on the part of school administrations after that of Charles Saur's has resulted in the destruction of a treasure perhaps more than 100 years old. As in all things bureaucratic, those responsible for this will probably never be exactly identified. As it is, the collection will likely end up in a near by dumpster as soon as someone concludes that no one is any longer watching.
