In the early and mid 1950s people along 34th Street, east of Division Avenue, put up elaborate Xmas displays during each Christmas season. People from the area, and even beyond, would walk the street viewing the displays. The newspaper piece below mentions that eventually it took all year some years to prepare for the holidays. After some years, the event simply got to be too much work, and stopped being held.
The images and information below was supplied for scanning by Polly Goeman, who lived at 3413 Jefferson Avenue at the time. Note the fading of the color images. Sadly, the color processes used in film and slides in the 1950s were not always stable. For this reason it's important for people that have material of historical interest to get it scanned so that it does not deteriorate further.
